Eldan Education Plc. was founded in 2002 by two childhood friends who grew up and
completed their high school education in Jimma city. Jimma, a picturesque city located in South
Western Ethiopia, has a population of over 263,000 as of 2023.
It is situated 335 km from the
capital city, Addis Ababa. The Jimma campus became the first legally registered private school in
the city.
The head office and ELDAN-Jimma School are located in Higher 3 Kebele 07, not far
from the town center. ELDAN-Jimma started with 28 students across 3 classrooms and had 10
teachers in its first year of operation.
Today, the school has 46 classrooms, 114 teaching and
support staff, and about 1400 students enrolled from KG to Grade 12. ELDAN-Agaro, the second
campus located in a neighboring city, opened in September 2005. As of 2024, ELDAN-Agaro
serves close to 280 students and has 8 classrooms, 28 academic and administrative staff.
ElDan Plc. was founded by two visionary educators, the late Mr. Elias Beyene and Dr. Daniel Sahleyesus. Their friendship and shared passion for education led them to establish ElDan as a joint venture in 2002. Both founders have extensive experience in the education sector and a deep commitment to improving educational standards in Ethiopia.
Together, they envisioned an institution that would provide quality, affordable education while promoting the overall development of children. The name 'ElDan' combines their initials – El for Elias and Dan for Daniel – symbolizing their lasting partnership and shared mission.
The late Mr. Elias Beyene was a highly respected educator, academic, and community leader whose contributions to education and society left a lasting impact on the communities he served and the generations of young people he mentored. Holding a BSc in Physics from Addis 1 Ababa University and a Diploma in Business Administration from Jimma University, Mr. Elias dedicated much of his career to teaching and mentoring students at various levels. He served as a high school physics teacher in several cities across Ethiopia, inspiring countless young minds with his passion for science and learning.
Beyond his high school teaching career, Mr. Elias tutored students at Jimma University, helping them excel academically and achieve their goals. He was also deeply committed to community development, actively engaging in initiatives aimed at uplifting underserved communities in Jimma, Agaro, and surrounding areas. Notably, he was a founding member of the Jimma Rotary Club, where he championed projects to improve education, health, and social welfare. In addition to co-founding ElDan, Mr. Elias served as the founding director of ElDan Jimma and Agaro until his untimely passing in July 2007.
Dr. Daniel Sahleyesus is a d sociologist and demographer with extensive academic and professional experience. He holds a Dr.phil. from Bremen University in Germany, and a Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Over the years, Dr. Daniel has worked extensively with local NGOs and the public sector in Ethiopia, contributing to impactful projects that promote education, health, and social progress.
Dr. Daniel has also served as a board director for Ethiopiaid Canada, a Canadian-based charity, for over five years and continues to volunteer as an advisor to a local NGO, leveraging his expertise to drive positive change. He has also shared his knowledge as a part-time instructor at universities in both Ethiopia, Germany and Canada, mentoring students and fostering a deeper understanding of sociology and demography.
